TRIBE Lyon Croix Rousse

Hotel-restaurant 4-star with spa in Lyon

Presentation

TRIBE Lyon Croix Rousse overlooks Rue de Margnolles, right on the edge of the district that lends it its name. The historic plateau, home to the traboules and the canuts’ workshops, begins a little farther on, about a ten-minute walk or one metro stop from Cuire. You mainly notice this on the first trip, with the city map open on your phone, before realizing that this walk is part of the rhythm of the stay rather than something that gets in the way.

From the moment you enter, the social hub takes over. Velvet sofas, a few graphic light fixtures, and at the center a bar around which people work, chat, or simply wait for their coffee. By day, light streams through the bay windows and changes depending on the orientation of the tables, livelier on the street side, calmer on the garden side. A local roaster supplies the coffee, served from morning until late evening, and a chef prepares snacks available at any hour, to nibble on site, in your room, or to take away.

As you head up to the upper floors, the rooms play a different tune. Powder pink on one wall, emerald green on another, modular furniture with sixties lines, a vintage lamp on the bedside table. The house signature bed takes up a good part of the space, and the bedding is dense, almost too comfortable to get up early. The compact bathroom keeps a retro feel with its walk-in shower. No minibar, no room service: the brand made that choice from the outset, to keep the essentials and let the budget go instead toward coffee and cocktails in the lobby. Fans of classic room service may regret the lack of it, but the spirit of the place is clearly elsewhere, in the common areas.

On the practical side, there is a safe large enough for a laptop, adjustable air conditioning, and for those who need it, accessible rooms with a wide walk-in shower and step-free entry.

On the ground floor, the leafy patio fills up at the end of the day. You can order a glass of wine or a sharing board there, without rushing. On Sundays, the brunch draws a crowd after late check-out, so it is better to reserve a spot rather than rely on finding a free table after noon.

The breakfast, for its part, lives up to expectations over time: fresh products, a generous buffet, and service that does not slow down even on a busy Sunday. The staff, often praised by returning guests, keeps that warm and efficient tone that makes you remember names from one visit to the next.

The social hub coffee is especially good around eight o’clock, when the room is still quiet and the team has time to prepare it without rushing.

Summary of a few positive reviews read on the Web

  • Second stay here in a few months, and the reception team remembered my name. Quick check-in despite a late arrival on a weekday evening.
  • Generous breakfast buffet, fresh products, and service that keeps up even on a Sunday brunch. The coffee is clearly above average for this standard.
  • Room stayed cool from floor to ceiling despite the heat outside, and the air conditioning does the job without background noise. Very comfortable bed, almost too much so to get up on time.
  • Well-designed accessible room, wide walk-in shower, no threshold between the corridor and the bathroom. Attentive staff on this specific point.
  • Hotel a little far from the real Croix-Rousse plateau, but Cuire metro is a three-minute walk away, and ten minutes is enough to reach the center.
