OKKO Hotels Lyon Centre
Hotel 4-star with spa in Lyon
Presentation
OKKO Hotels Lyon Centre directly overlooks the Rhône quays, in the 6th arrondissement, just a stone’s throw from the Presqu'île. It is often reached on foot, by following the river. The façade, that of the former Prefecture, retains its Haussmann-style elegance. Inside, everything changes.
The lobby opens onto Le Club, a large open space where you encounter travelers in the middle of the workday, coffee in hand, and others leafing through a magazine in an armchair designed by Patrick Norguet. Here, you help yourself. A Palais des Thés tea, a snack, a glass of wine in the evening with the apéritivo (cheese, charcuterie, a vegetarian option for those who prefer). Nothing is counted, nothing is charged extra.
The rooms, averaging around fifteen square meters, favor simplicity over accumulation. The bed, designed by Cocomat for the brand, takes up the whole space, framed by wrinkled linen sheets. There is no minibar here, but there is a Nespresso machine and unlimited capsules. The rest, in any case, is downstairs, at the Club, available day and night. In the bathroom, the walk-in shower lets the steam escape gently, Omnisens products line the sink, and the towels bear the Max Havelaar label. A powerful hairdryer, a little storage in the adjoining dressing area, and a safe large enough for a laptop.
In the morning, the buffet is served between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on weekdays (11 a.m. on weekends), with fresh and local products listed on the menu. There is an extra charge, and some regulars regret that it does not vary much from one day to the next, an honest point to know before booking, when other establishments include it by default. Nothing prevents you from heading back to the nearby market halls to top up; the Presqu'île is only a few minutes’ walk away.
As for the surroundings, Place Bellecour and the Part-Dieu shopping center are about a ten-minute walk away, and the Opéra and Place des Terreaux are about the same distance. So you are not exactly in the very center of the center, but rather on its edge, by the quays, which also brings a certain calm in the evening. Those arriving by car will find a parking space in front of the hotel, but parking remains paid, as in the rest of the neighborhood.
As the floors go by, the staff remain discreet but present. A housekeeper, regularly seen on the fifth floor, greets each guest with the same smile, the kind that stays in your memory once the suitcase is packed away again. At reception, the welcome is described as quick, with no unnecessary detours.
For those who want to keep up their routine while traveling, a small gym (treadmill, bike, a few weights) remains open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The hotel also displays its environmental impact, B rating, greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, a level of transparency that is fairly rare in hotels of this category.
Around 10 p.m., when Le Club empties out a little, it is time to settle into the sofa near the bay window, one last drink in hand, before heading up to bed.
Summary of some positive reviews read on the Web
- Well located, just a stone’s throw from the Presqu'île. You can walk to the Opéra in ten minutes. In the evening, the area remains quiet for sleeping.
- Clean room, really comfortable bedding. Quick check-in, no waiting. The air conditioning works well, which is appreciated in summer.
- A housekeeper met on the fifth floor, always smiling, with a sincere hello. That kind of detail changes a stay.
- The lounge downstairs, with drinks and snacks freely available all day, a real plus. You can spend a while there before heading back up.
- Fresh breakfast, local products, but a little repetitive if you stay several days. Still reasonable for the price.
- Easy to park right in front, even though it is paid. Convenient for a stay with a car.
