Hôtel du Dauphin, at 9 rue Victor Hugo, is located in the pedestrian part of the Presqu'île, a three-minute walk from Place Bellecour. You get there by rolling your suitcase between the shop windows, with no engine noise to drown out the conversations.

The building is old, taken over by the hotel after the Second World War. Push open the door and you discover a house with thirteen rooms, recently renovated with simple materials. Parquet flooring, moldings, high ceilings: everything old has been preserved, simply brightened by light tones. An old-fashioned elevator goes up to the upper floors.

At reception, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., you are assisted in French, English, or Spanish. They will suggest bouchons, sightseeing ideas, and if the train arrives too early or leaves too late, the luggage storage will keep your bags.

The rooms are compact. In some, the bathroom is reached by a step, and the space to move around the bed remains limited. People come mainly to sleep in a comfortable bed, under high ceilings, and to have the city at the door. Higher-category rooms sometimes add a balcony. Each room has its own shower, a hairdryer, a flat-screen TV, a courtesy tray, and wifi. A crib or extra bed can be added for €10 per night, subject to availability. Dogs under 10 kg are accepted on request, for €5 per night.

The street is lively, and the street-facing rooms retain some of that noise, since the hotel begins at mezzanine level. The second-floor courtyard-facing rooms are the quietest; just request them when booking.

From morning, breakfast buffet service runs from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on weekends. You will find croissants, bread, hard-boiled eggs, fresh cheeses, seasonal fruit, applesauce, and organic jams. It costs €11.90 per person and €5 for children up to 10 years old. Those who prefer to stay in their room can have it brought up until noon.

For cars, three paid parking lots are located about 500 meters away (Bellecour, Antonin Poncet, Tilsitt), as the hotel has none of its own. Perrache station is a ten-minute walk away, and the metro is very close by.

On weekends, breakfast starts at 8 a.m., and rue Victor Hugo is still almost empty when you come out. Bellecour is three minutes away, so you may as well walk there before the square fills up.
